snippets of my soul

bit and pieces unfold

watch

look

listen

carefully

what do you see

my heart is full

I pretend it is empty

so much more left to give

I pretend to be broken

hoping it will frighten you

but I want love

who doesn’t

who doesn’t want to be

in love

and loved

cared for

appreciated

I speak loudly

but you don’t hear my silence

my silence shouts louder truths

I fight but

I want to be over powered

manhandle me

with words of virtue

gallantly

take me back in history

to the time when men courted their betrothed

when hands were kissed

and men bowed in the honor of their miss

and she curtsied approval

blushing behind dainty fans

paint the sand

for me

soft turquoise and pink

lavenders and chartreuse

bottle it

with a message

that says

I long to make you strong again

I long to belong to you

and I will honor that request
