![]() The Winding RoadA Poem by Choosing LifeWhen do we get that life turns When least expected A heart neglected by friendship burns You never know what you are going to get And Cracker Jack surprises break easily Worth is only known in your eyes What matters is what can’t be defined Emotions change like the weather A forecast can only estimate what will come next In the end and at the beginning There is only you And in the course of this life You dream awake And walk asleep Afraid to risk it all Afraid to grab at hope Because empty hands Remind a heart That sometimes dust settles And pictures fade Words are given and validity Isn’t concerned or considered When hearts and ears yearn to believe And being cherished is often a fleeting moment In the arms of one that is going on And folks songs and country songs Are the hymnals of real life You must begin again a million times And end a million things that feel so right Realizing just how wrong they were And often times what hurts the most Becomes the greatest relief in retrospect You look back over situations that made you feel so lost And realize that in those moments you were found again Relief in a breath of a memory That makes you thank God for setting you free When holding on was all your heart thought it could do Each moment that unravels fingers That so tightly held A dream that it was time to awake from You stand again Understanding that in the distance is a future Awaiting your arrival Expecting your touch And your awareness is needed As you travel along Knowing that life turns © 2008 Choosing Life |
