These Words

These Words

A Poem by Cierra

My thoughts have been confused, swirling through my head.

I know what I feel is good and I wonder if you feel it, too.

At first I was confused, for these words, I’ve never said.

I just wish I knew if there was some secret cue.

When I look into your eyes, and when I see your smile,

Nothing matters in that moment, nothing but you and I.

I know I could just blurt it out, but forward is not my style.

I wonder if you’ll say it first, every time we say goodbye.

I think about it all of the time, but the words will not pass my lips,

Like the soft kisses we exchanged just a few nights ago.

My biggest fear is for the day my drunken tongue lets it slip.

For these words, they are my truth, and I want for you to know.

The day you offered your shoulder, and lent to me your ear,

I knew that day it was true and  I loved you even then.
