be careful what you wish for

be careful what you wish for

A Poem by MaCayla Mae

4-6-15
Do you know what it feels like
to melt?
Watching yourself drip into a shallow puddle
at your feet.
You scan over your hands
to see them disintegrate
only leaving bones behind.
Your skin peels and bubbles off.
Isn't this what you wanted?
You begged for bones and
stinging hip bones.
You just never thought it would actually
feel so agonizing.

This really hit home for me. It was almost too hard to read. Is this supposed to be about body image? For me, it felt like the speaker was hit full force with what they had become and for a moment cannot even stand to see the truth.

Definitely!
I actually cringed reading this poem.
Such a short piece, yet it has such a wonderful emotional effort that I cant decide whether I am glad I read it or discomforted by the fact that I enjoyed it.
Simply put, I loved it.
