STONE CUTTER

STONE CUTTER

A Poem by G

I am stone cutter

       the jaded man

no longer will i use

       clay to sculpture

                               and mold

too gentle.

       The final piece

          does not appreciate

                                the artistry

I am stone cutter

    axe, hammer and anvil

bluntly, brutally

        chopping off the pieces

the end result

   blood sweat and tears.

The sandpaper

           as opposed to oil

to sand down the chips

      not gently

because gently is a sign

                          of weakness

but hard, rough

        long strokes

so that later on

          the caresses

                         and kind words

will be appreciated

                and the work

                             of art

will know

                   pain

                  and appreciate

joy.
