streets w/o people

streets w/o people

A Poem by Marvin Loyd Welborn

streets w/o people

~

the first full day

of a brand new

new year

I sit in my car

radio playing

a song

from a singer

no one

remembers

as I did

when I lived

some other year

no one

is moving

no one

is here

streets w/o people

the music I hear

where people

are missing

nobody there

some say

one day

no one

will care

now

is but all

that ever

is here

when

this thing

or

that thing

all disappears

what would one hold

to oneself

which is dear

when someone

surrenders

just

simply because

no one

dare tender

to what

becomes was

Proust goes in detail

to tell of his past

but this

they say

this too

will not last

each day

a new day

where

each one will pass

what then

is there here

that is dear

I ask

no one

will tender

to what there

once was

who will

remember

what did

or what does

streets w/o people

no one is home

no one is moving

everyone’s gone

streets

w/o

people

all

alone

I

miss

other

people

got

up

and

gone

from streets

w/o people

where now

is begun

~
