The Bridge

The Bridge

A Poem by tina edwards

The bridge that once stood
It was strong or so I thought
I thought it fire retardant

I was wrong
You burnt it down to the ground
You took a hammer
To the foundation and smashed it

There is no metal left
There is no cement
For the foundation
You used all of it
The last time we built the bridge

There is nothing left
No more words to say
All that is left are the ashes

Of the friendship
That we had

No more rebuilding the bridge
No more chances
I am done
