The Power of the PressA Story by Dr. Tim WilliamsThe main stream media has an agenda far removed from the hopes and dreams of millions of Americans
If elections aren't predetermined by the press one has to wonder how then one candidate rises so quickly over another. In 2015 the press bent over backwards s as they say to cover Donald Trump virtually ignoring all the other Republican candidates for President. The nonstop media exposure had much to do with the election of Donald Trump. We can arguably say the media created the Trump Presidency. The free media coverage of practically every movement and every word by Trump had an incredible effect on the voting public. In other words, covering Trump then and now is a financial windfall for the three corporations that control what the public reads and sees in the news and on TV.
The mainstream media can make or break a political career and it still is happening. It was just one month ago that Florida's Governor DeSantis won reelection and already the media is pushing a DeSantis Candidacy for President in 2024. Charlie Crist was right in his assertion that DeSantis is more focused on national affairs rather than focusing on the problems Florida is facing. In the movie "Meet John Doe" illustrates the power of the media and the people behind it. It also portrays how they can manipulate a person to do their bidding. That old saying life imitates art well turn that phrase around the movie Meet John Doe fictions not only imitates reality but is a reality today. The power of the media does in fact control people's perceptions of events and therefore to a great extent controls our lives. In reporting the media does release news pieces that are programed to create a desired outcome. They can literally take a person like in the movie Meet John Doe and propel him or her to national prominence all designed to manipulate the public for a desired effect. Effects that either promote one or disgrace one ending many a career. The power of the media remains a corrosive and to some degree an all-powerful syndicate controlling the future of political candidates and the public at large. Years ago, what the media did to Gary Hart is a prime example of how powerful the media is. The coverage of DeSantis today is just another example of how they can manipulate the public and turn our attention to one candidate over others. This continues to be done time and time again. The money game that is played in our political arena is far too tempting for the media to ignore. And until the public realizes what the media is actually promoting by their blatant manipulation in our democratic process, we will always surrender our inalienable rights to a power structure designed to control our very own lives.
