Bernie's Last Stand

Bernie's Last Stand

Why California is so important for Senator Sanders run for the White House

"
In this the year of political discontent where fraud, purged electoric and unsurpassed voting irregularities that have occurred has left an indelible mark on the American democratic process. But, what is more shameful is that billions of dollars are being made by the media, corporate America and the establishment of both political parties in an apparent attempt to hide certain known facts that would disavowal the candidacies of both Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton. And, yet the media is playing the Trump card to the hilt and completely ignoring the facts concerning the legitimacy of Clinton. Even the Democratic establishment is doing everything it can to thwart the legitimate campaign of Bernie Sanders. One has to wonder what are they afraid of? Could it be that Senator Sanders wants to revert our Democratic process back to the way our Founding Fathers intended.

It was just a year ago that Bernie Sanders launched his presidential campaign with an expression of outrageous faith in American democracy. This at a point when the pundits said that the race for the Democratic nomination would be an afterthought. The coronation of Hillary Clinton was a sure bet. But, it was Bernie Sanders who argued that a campaign “paid for by the people, not the
billionaires” could upset expectations. In the year that has followed what started out as a small but effective grass roots campaign has turned into a national political revolution. By many measures, Bernie Sanders has succeeded wildly: attracting huge crowds to rallies; drawing millions of young people and disenchanted voters to the polls; driving critical issues into the campaign. He has done this by winning 20 contests, over 10 million votes cast, and about 1,500 pledged delegates. When the California Primary is said and done those numbers will rise substantially. It just maybe possible that from a small grass roots campaign with virtually no chance of securing the Democratic Parties Presidential nomination in the beginning now is poised to achieve what many thought was impossible. Still the Democratic establishment is hell bent on the coronation of Clinton. It is ironic that poll after poll and the number of American citizens so disenchanted with both Clinton and Trump indicates that Senator Sanders has ignited a political movement that is unprecedented. Still, the media as well as the Democratic establishment are completely bias toward their predetermined candidate of choice, Clinton.

What is ignored by the media or swept under the rug of political expediency are certain facts that would indicate a level of corruption that is unsurpassed, voter tampering and a covert attempt to sway the out come of primary after primary for the specific purpose of gaining more delegates for Clinton. Duped by the media, and beguiled by big money donors the fix has been in right from the start. But, through it all Senator Sanders has succeed in launching a political referendum that is both contrary to the establishment and corporate America. Bernie Sanders remains in a position that would if he is successful at securing the parties nomination will be well on his way to becoming the next President. This at a time where many of his proposals would be a welcome relief form the political and economic realities that at are currently plaguing this country.

If the political deck that is already stacked against Senator Sanders puts Clinton as the nominee the challenge for the Sanders campaign will be to keep its sense of purpose. If Bernie Sanders does not secure the nomination, many feel this would only be a testament to the status-quo that has become ripe with a political process that is still bought and paid for. Paid for not by the public but by the mega donors that continue to write the rules only for self enrichment and corporate cronyism.  If this is the case Senator Sanders and his supporters could yet secure the future and much needed political reforms  if they maintain the combination of idealism and fortitude that has been the campaign’s strength, while refusing to become enmeshed in personality clashes and petty feuds. Playing the Trump card and stooping to the level of lunacy of Donald Trump will not fix the countries many crisis.

In either case whether Sanders wins California and secures the delegates needed or not Sanders and his team will arrive at the Democratic National Convention with the largest insurgent delegation in modern history. In the eventuality that Hillary Clinton gains the nomination her supporters must welcome Sanders and his supporters for they have a legitimate right to implement many of their reforms into the Democratic platform. For that to happen, however, the Sanders campaign must maintain a scrupulous focus on reforms that would democratize the party.

Bernie's last stand not to confuse with Custer's last stand is all about moving the country past the political infighting and placing the countries agenda on a forward progressive platform that would eliminate much of the growing economic and social ills plaguing the United States. It is to Bernie Sanders credit from an upstart campaign that had little or no chance of igniting a political revolution to a national movement that has captured the hearts and minds of millions all across the country. Bernie's last stand could very well put him into the White House.
