Chapter 6 – Changing Lives

It’s Monday… ugh five days until the next party. I was looking forward to it. I was in a bad mood. The words “nothing can separate us from God’s love were still ringing in my ears.” I could barely go to sleep because of them. So I was tired.

When we got off and went to the cafeteria, I went like always to sit by Kelly, but an arm grabbed me. It was Lily.

“You’re sitting with us today,” she ordered.

I pulled away from her. Kelly called my name. Lily grabbed my arm and tried to pull me toward the table I used to sit at. I had finally had it. I had snapped.

“GET OFF OF ME YOU NERD!!! Stop trying to rule my life okay?” I yelled at her. “Go away, you are ruining my life! I’ve found something better in Kelly and my other friends! Leave me alone! All of you!!!”

I was breathing heavily. I stared at them, and tears were forming in Lily’s eyes. Ian and Walt had hurt expressions on their face. I pulled out my THE CREW card and threw in on the ground. Lily went to pick it up, and with tears streaming down her face, she pocketed it and left the cafeteria. I was taken aback; I had never seen her cry before. She was always the toughest of us. I quickly hid my emotions in my face and went to sit by Kelly, who said I did the right thing. I had finally done it, I had chosen a side.

Then why did it feel so wrong?

……

The rest of the week went pretty good. I stayed away from the “crew” and sat by Shawn on the bus. I was invited to the party that Friday that would change my life.

……

The party was awesome, it was in walking distance of my house, so I left the house. It was an all-nighter party so I told my parents I was walking over to Ian’s house and spending the night.

We were watching another chick-flick movie to start the night out. I’d never seen this movie. So when the shocking sex scene came up, I was mildly surprised. Some couples went into one of the many rooms in the house. I felt my heart skip a beat when Kelly grabbed my hand and pull me up.

“Come on,” she whispered.

I hesitated. This was the “big one.” It was all over the bible to avoid sexual immorality. I didn’t know if I wanted to pull this one, it could have some really bad repercussions.

“What if you were to get pregnant?” I whispered to her.

“I won’t,” she said as she reached into her purse. She pulled out a bottle of “the pills.” My heart stopped. My excuse was used up.

“I wasn’t going to do this until I was married,” I muttered softly, my voice sounded very small.

“If you love me you will do this,” she said.

I hesitated again. I remembered the words that Lance had said, “Nothing can separate us form the love of God.” I could use this as an excuse. But then a voice inside my head started debating

That’s not supposed to be an excuse, it’s an encouragement

But it would be so awesome, she’s so amazing!!!

Why is she amazing? She encouraged you when you dumped your best friend!

“No,” I whispered.

“What?” she almost yelled, couples heads popped out of their rooms to see what was going on.

“No, I won’t do it.” I said with confidence.

She slapped me across the face. And man it hurt.

“Then we are through! Get out!!!” she pointed toward the door. I looked around at everyone else. Even Shawn looked at me with venom in his eyes. I stepped out of the door and ran for my house.
