Unrequited Love

Unrequited Love

A Story by Bhumi Motwani

She would just watch him from the corner.

He never knew she existed.

He was a little different and that’s what drove her to him, a magnetic force she couldn’t probably resist.  He had a handsome face, a smile so beautiful it could make any heart skip a beat. To her he was perfection, Reborn. She observed him everyday trying to fathom his every move but with little victory and that killed her. She considered herself to be the perfect judge of character and he seemed to mock her right in the face and that she couldn’t endure. She thought about him day and night, when he was around and when he wasn’t.

Time ticked past.

She got connected to his emotions, to his soul.

He still didn’t know her.

Out of the blue, one day he came to her and said, “Hello”, then smiled. Her heart fluttered and skipped a beat, she went numb. That very night she tossed and turned in her bed trying to figure out what had gone wrong with her, was his hello her sole desire? The answer struck a cord, a melody so sweet that it bought tears to her eyes.

She was madly, irrevocably in love with him.

She wouldn’t tell, he couldn’t guess. She would try to run away from the feeling he gave her but always in vain. He pre-occupied her in the day and made her drench her pillow with tears at night. This was one kind of love she couldn’t hide from. A run which would lead her only to one place, Him. She felt every emotion he felt, an attraction so dangerous it could take one’s life away. It was taking her life, slowly.

Then it happened.

She picked up the little courage that she had and walked up to him. He stared at her with those deep black eyes which seemed to have no end just like her feeling, a bottomless ocean of passion. “I am in love with you.” She confessed and looked away. She didn’t have the power to receive the answer. Then slowly when she did look up, he was no where to be seen and that night she cried over that one message that he had sent to her, “you don’t exist for me.”

He was gone.
