Skid Row

Skid Row

A Poem by Mauricio Montoya
"

being homeless

"

Skid row

Skid row skid row

 where the homeless roam

Rescue missions are in submission

but

With Three hots,

and a shopping cart

you know

I'm on  a roll

Front door real state

Sidewalk landscape

All the comfort I appreciate

A luxuries

no income

can compensate

Start my morning early

To the sound of trampling feet

A rhythm I cherished dearly

 every day of the week

Programmed social workers

ask

Why are we in this plight?

Mindless counselors

yell

Come and join the fight

Soup kitchen to a drop in center

because

I'm a penniless socialite

with Jesus saves

above the door

how can  my future get any brighter

Society outlook, may never change

The world owes me nothing, so who do I blame

Maybe it’s my life style, I should rearrange

Will it matter,

i don't think in my life time

it will ever change.

this is spoken in the views of someone who has been there. Knows what the days are like and knows the freedom to it and the hardships as well but tries to remain positive about the conditions. You wrote this with great description and in a way that no one else could unless they have experienced it first hand. This was done with taste and respect.

This is so powerful and profound. When people see us in the way that we've fallen from grace their jugement can be quite harsh. I've been judged like this from people who were my neighbors once my husband kicked me out of my house. But, we all could suffer the same fate any day. That doesn't make us bad, weak or less valuable. To me, it just makes us human. To me humbleness is a much more valuable trait than pride. Your poem was extrodinary to me.

Provokes one to think about our life and be tankful

I have not known the homeless life but I have gone back home when I was younger....but living is living and one must adapt and learn to survive...you my friend have captured this within your poem...

I enjoyed reading this birdseye view of a life many will never comprehend. This is like a 24 hours walk in their shoes.
