Spare Change

Spare Change

A Poem by Mauricio Montoya

Spare Change

Please don’t knock on a door unwilling to open

Nor blow wind through a window that remains closed

With the walls that surround it

For I sit inside with a roof above me

And the foundation below me

I am willing to open the door

If the knock is appropriate

Because change

Does not come in the direction in which the wind blows

But from within

I understand your viewpoint on change, but I don't understand the word "spare" in your title. Do we only have a limited amount of change within us and we are not sure how much we have? Sometimes we have the capability of more change than we can ever imagine. How do you determine what is the appropriate "knock?" Sometimes we are forced to accept and change or we continue to sit alone in our shelter, but it is only an existence not really "living." I really appreciated the last two lines, they are very true.

Wow, this is powerful, showing strength from within, knowing that if change is appropriate, you have the inner strength to facilitate that change. Excellent poem!

Some would whisper through letter boxes, some would knock gently, some would beat down the door but maybe - and wisely, it's best to wait and be invited. After all, thinking time is supposed to be everyone's right to a comfort zone! Fools rush the battlements ..

Your words are - as always, rich with meaning. You'll take the step when you're ready, don't be pushed. You're almost there, wonderful!

this is a simple concept but executed well- people fear change- but without change their is no progression and no evolution of anything.

I've always hated change, even feared it .. .. You are right change begins within .. A happy heart shines .. ..

Nice .. Jazz
