Chapter 1: Scholarships and MovingA Chapter by Lyghea“Junior year,” Katy sighs as she rolls her eyes at Rachel. The two girls laugh when Eric pops out of nowhere and starts filming the two girls. “Again?” Rachel questioned him. Eric nodded. I need it for filming class. “Cool… where’s Mr. Bringers classroom? He’s my first class,” Katy asked as she stuck her tongue out. Eric stopped and pointed to the classroom they were right next to. “Right.” Katy walked through to door. “Now that she’s out of the way…,” Eric began. Rachel grinned and nodded. “Let’s talk about it. She already knows. Okay?” “Yeah. I know. We were talking about it when I was texting her. She wants the same thing you know. She wants to be a musician, also. Let her,” Eric finished. Rachel shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know. I’ve never even heard her sing.” “Hey! Look...! Anyone who wants to try for spring auditions are today during 4th period. Let’s get Katy and we can see how she does at the auditions. Okay,” Eric suggested as they walked back to Katy. Rachel knocked on the door. Mr. Bringers gestured them to come in. “What would you like Ms. Kilo?” His stern voice rather frightened Rachel. “I just needed to make sure Katy knew that spring auditions were during 4th period and that she promised she would be doing them. She’s in your class during that period,” Rachel stuttered out. “Yes, well thank you. Now get to your homeroom. You have 5 minutes before first bell rings. Scoot!” Katy signed ‘Thank you’ as Rachel and Eric hurried out of the classroom and to the 2nd floor into Mrs. Hennings class. “There you two are! Ugh. Find your seats and sit down.” Mrs. Hennings continued to write on the smart board. They had a very advanced school. The first 3 periods past pretty fast shockingly to Katy, Rachel, and Eric. They were over relieved when 4th period came and it was time for the auditions. The music director, Mrs. Kegs, called out Katy first. Katy chose the song Something More by Sugarland. Katy had an amazing voice. "Wow... She's actually," Rachel was finished by Eric, "good." Katy finished as she walked down to Rachel. "Was that, good?" Rachel nodded. "Rachel Kilo?" Mrs. Kegs looked around. Rachel waved her hand and started for the stage. "This should be good," Eric mumbled to himself. He took out his video camera and started to record Rachel singing. When she was done, Mrs. Kegs was giving her constructive criticism. As she was doing so, Katy asked Eric, "how come you recorded Rachel singing, and not me? Do you like her?" Eric nodded almost unnoticeably. "Oh my Gosh," Katy finished. "What?" Rachel asked. Katy looked at Eric then back at Rachel. "Nothing. Don't worry about it... It's nothing," Katy finished. The three friends headed for the door. That's when their principle came in. "Rachel Kilo! Katy Regs! Eric Myan! I need all 3 of you in my office," there was a small pause and the 3 friends looked at each other, "Now!" Mr. Tix finished with his loud, booming voice that echoed throughout the entire theater. Rachel looked puzzled at Eric for a moment. "What?" Rachel shook her head. They all walked down together to Mr. Tix's office. "Please, please... Have a seat." He poured himself a cup of coffee. "Here." He handed the kids the letters that clearly had their name marked. Rachel looked puzzled when she was handed two letter to open instead of one, like Eric and Katy had. "Sir, why do I have two letters and not one, like Katy and Eric have?" "Just open it, I assure you all 3 of you will be happy." Mr. Tix finished and he stood up. "Get back to class," he said as he gestured them to go out of his office. They all gave each other puzzled looks. "On three," Rachel said as she grabbed the nicer, red covered, envelope. "One. Two. Three!" All 3 of them opened up the letter and were shocked at what they saw. Scholarships. They were offered scholarships. They had to be viewed, of course, but they were as happy as ever - they didn't know what was coming. They were only in their Junior year so they didn't know what to expect. "Where'd you get accepted?" Eric peered over to Katy and Rachel's papers. "Julliard," Rachel managed to say through the shock. "Samers," Katy said using her favorite word. "What about you," Rachel concluded. "California's Film School," Eric said as a smiled drifted upon his face. "What's your other one," Katy asked Rachel. "Ummm... Lemme see," Rachel said as she grabbed the other one from her book bag. "Wow," Rachel exclaimed as her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. Eric put his hand on Rachel's left shoulder. He smiled then looked over her shoulder. Rachel looked back then turned forward and smiled at Katy. Katy gave a half smile before asking, "well, where's it to?" "UCON." Rachel let out a sigh of relief. Katy looked at Rachel. Katy turned to go back to class. Eric turned towards Rachel and was within an inch of kissing her before Rachel stopped him. Katy looked back. She started tearing up. "Katy, no! I stopped him for a reason, I don't like him like that. I promise." Rachel ran after Katy with her own tears running down her face. "Katy! I didn't want to... That's why I stopped him, please Katy," Rachel screamed as she grabbed her shoulder and forced her around. Katy turned around with her head bent down to the floor. Rachel tilted her head up, then wiping the tears off of her face. "So, you don't want to?" Rachel gave Katy an anxious look. "You still like him," Katy questioned Rachel sounding more surprised than anything. "Why didn't you kiss him then? I know you know I like him but you liked him first and he likes you and," she was interrupted by Rachel. "I didn't because you're my best friend. Who cares about some guy. Chicks before dicks!" Rachel and Katy laughed until they cried at that. Katy and Rachel gave each other a hug before walking back. Katy and Rachel walked back to where Eric was. "Sorry," he apologized to Katy and Rachel. Mr. Tix walked back to his office. He gave them a stern look before waving his hand to go back in his room. "I had to finish a phone call, I'm truly sorry and glad you are still here. I assume you all know where you're getting accepted?" Mr. Tix raised his eyebrow and tilted his head down. They looked at Mr. Tix with a curious look on their faces. "What happened," Eric finally said, breaking the long silence. "You are all transferring," Mr. Tix finally told them. Rachel, Katy, and Eric all looked at each other. "What," they all said simultaneously. Mr. Tix nodded his head. "Trigger's Preforming Arts and Film School in Jacksville," Mr. Tix said trying to give vague details. "What?! That's 2 hours away!" Rachel shouted loud enough for the room to echo. "They have dormitories. You'd be staying in the dorms that they provide for those who travel a long ways," Mr. Tix finished giving the information he thought would be necessary. The three friends looked at each other then continued. When they got home, they told their parents about the scholarships and the school. Their parents had to think about it for a while but eventually allowed their kids to go. The three friends rejoiced as they were Skyping. They all packed. "It's like their going to college already," said Mrs. Kilo, Rachel's mom, to Eric and Katy's moms. The moms nodded as the three friends just finished packing the car. Mrs. Kilo, Rachel, Eric, and Katy all piled into the door and were on their way to Trigger's Performing Arts and Film School. When they arrived around 8 AM, the three friends walked through the door. What they say was nothing on what they imagined it to be. © 2012 Lyghea |
