Chapter 6: Destiny's TruthA Chapter by LygheaDestiny is told about the truth and gets the procedure. More trouble is on her way when she loses her leg and her hearing. Destiny finds a place to show Adam. That becomes their hide-out.
"Wh-Wha-What," Destiny studdered. "I didn't even know I was adopted!" Destiny was frozen. She was taking in a lot when Mrs. Renders said that to her. "Ummm...mom," Adam began, "can I please talk to you out in the hall?" Mrs. Renders followed Adam out into the hall. Destiny stood up and tried to make out what Mrs. Renders and Adam were arguing about. She figured it was about Mrs. Renders telling her she had a birth father and was adopted. She didn't know it, but she was right. When Adam came back in, Mrs. Renders was about to leave. "Wait," Destiny shouted, "when is my mom going to be here? I miss her." "Soon. Don't worry," Mrs. Renders said to Destiny before looking towards Adam, "I'll be back tomorrow around 2:30 PM. Remember tomorrow is Saturday." "Where are you going, mom," Adam asked curiously. "Family issues at home," Mrs. Renders replied. "I want to come!" Adam shouted as he grabbed his mom's arm. "No. It doesn't concern you. It's... never mind. I'll tell you and Destiny laster. Okay," Mrs. Renders disclosed as she left the room, went to her car, and drove the 2 hours home.
Destiny and Adam stood there in silence for the longest time ever. It wasn't until later, around 4:30 PM, that Adam decided to start a conversation off with Destiny. Adam was sick of the annoying silence that surrounded them and couldn't bare it any longer. "So. When's your operation?" Adam finally broke the silence. "Sunday," Destiny quickly responded. "How much do you like me," Adam asked. "I don't," Destiny once again spoke quickly. "Oh," Adam sounded disappointed. Adam silently cried to himself until he heard Destiny doing the same. "What's wrong?" Adam inquired. "I...I...," Destiny began. "You what?" Adam asked impatiently. "I...love you," Destiny choked out quickly. Adam froze. "You love me," Adam asked making sure he heard right. Destiny silently nodded. "I...I...I...," Adam studdered. "I don't know what to say." "Oh. Sorry," Destiny said as tears filled her eyes. "It's not your fault. I just...," Adam began. "You what," Destiny snapped. "I love you, too." Destiny froze. Adam walked over and sat next to her. He dried Destiny's tears. Destiny sat up as she was looking into his shining ocean blue eyes. Destiny kissed him. Adam bit his lip after retracting and kissed Destiny back.
The next morning Destiny went in for her surgery. It had to be performed on her femur. Femur and down was completely torn and damaged. Doctors didn't know if she'd ever be able to walk, or run normally again. But Destiny got her surgery and it was quite the procedure. It took about 8 hours. She was back in her room at 5 PM that Saturday night. She woke-up from the medicine at about 6:30 PM. Destiny looked down. "Where did my leg go," Destiny studdered scared. "The damge...it was too much. They had to amputate it. You'll be getting a fake leg," Adam answered her question in a clam, soothing voice. Destiny was scared. "And to tell you about your father...you were born in a poverty stricken home. You're birth mom died and your father had to take care of you and your eight siblings. He couldn't, so he walked through the whole country to put you and your siblings in different orphanages so it left no traces of him. He later got a job and got married to a beautiful young woman where he spent his life helping those in need." Mrs. Renders was almost done when Destiny interrupted. "But...," she began, "how'd he know I was his Destiny," she asked curouisly. Mrs. Renders was puzzled. She looked at the locket Destiny had on. "Your locket. You father gave it to you, as his oldest daughter, to know that you were his and that he's always there for you," Mrs. Renders concluded. Destiny was awe-stricken.
It was Sunday and Destiny was able to go home in a week. Or, was suppose to. Her and Adam were just talking as usual when Destiny began to feel pain in her chest. She asked Adam to get the nurse before she passed out. She had a heart attack. Her heart attack triggered her senses to be all whacked out. The doctors were able to restore everything but her hearing. She was deaf. Destiny was beginning to get very frustrated 2 days afterwards. She didn't understand anything and they couldn't put in choclear implants because she was too old and it would damage her brain. Destiny was stuck signing. Everyday before and after school Adam and Destiny would learn ASL. Destiny and Adam came even closer after this. The doctors and nurses ran a few more tests that week and let Destiny out that Wednesday. Destiny had trouble with her fake leg and the whole being deaf thing the first few days of school. She talked to her principle, well actually her mom did, and they got Destiny an interrpeter. Everyone was super nice to Destiny and the teachers began to talk about extending school days.
"We should extend the school day an extra hour. We should put in a Sign Language class. This is the 3rd child we'vve had at our school who is deaf and can't talk to kids well due to not knowing their lanuage," one teacher spoke during a conference. The Administration went ahead with it. They had a ASL class which kids took every day of the week. Destiny was please by it because now her friends and her could talk to each other and understand each other while doing so. Adam and Destiny go back to Adam's lakehouse in June. They had their conversations. Adam was almost sure Destiny wouldn't want to due to the events that happened last time, but Destiny was all in for it. Eventually Destiny found a boat and was off to a small island and found a cool cliff-off under a waterfall. Destiny couldn't wait to show Adam. Adam was curious when Destiny kept asking to be left alone for 2 hours the first few days. The fourth day they were there, Destiny showed Adam. Adam couldn't believe his eyes. He jumped in, through the wall, and into a cave where Destiny was already "settling in" and spending a lot of her time.
