Chapter 5: Adam Helps DestinyA Chapter by LygheaDestiny's condition is revealed and Adam promised to help her with everything. Their relationship becomes closer than they ever thought it would.Destiny's danger was life threatening. Destiny was fortunate that the tree fell the way it did. "Please, Dr. Tunks, tell me Destiny will be okay. Anything that could help her," Adam pleaded gratefully. "She'll need an operation and she already has a broken ankle and a broke wrist. Unless you have the money, I'm afraid Destiny will never lead a normal life," Dr. Tunks signed as she looked at Destiny. "Go. She's starting to wake-up. I can tell she means a lot to you," Dr. Tunks said as she lead Adam into Destiny's room. "Hey, Destiny. How are you feeling," Adam inquired. "Better. So, damage report," Destiny softly articulated while groaning from the pain. "You need an operation that your parents can't afford, you have a broken wrist and a broken ankle. Other than that, you'll be fine," Adam retorted gleefully. Destiny sat up and froze. "Does that mean I'm goign to die if I don't get the operation," Destiny cried worridly as she looked at Adam's gleaming blue eyes.
"You will. I promise I'll do whatever it takes to get that operation for you. Don't worry, please," Adam softly cried, half with tears and joy and the other half with sadness, as he laid beside Destiny. Destiny laid back down and looked at Adam. They talked for a bit. "How will you get the money," Destiny requested as Adam put his hand on her head. "I'll get what your parents and what my parents can afford then I'll do different fundraisers at school to help. Don't worry. I'll help with what I can and I'll get the money one way or another," Adam assured Destiny as he kissed her forehead and held her tightly. Destiny cried once again from pain and from everything else. "I'm sorry, Destiny. I didn't know this would happen. If it wasn't for me - you wouldn't be here," Adam poured out as he started bursting into tears. "No. If it wasn't for you, I'd be somewhere else - lost, alone, fearful, and clueless - you've shown me who I am and that I belong with you," Destiny began to cry tears of joy. Adam couldn't help but smile as he wiped away the tears when Destiny proclaimed that.
Adam spent restless nights in the hospital. His mom brought everything he needed. She tried pusuaying him to come home - Adam was too reluctant and begged to stay by Destiny's side when he possibly could. Adam's mom allowed him and told him he'd have to take a bus to a stop a block away from school. He'd have to leave 1 1/2 hours ahead of time in order to get to school on time. Adam didn't care as long as he could be with Destiny every night. "But how will you handle the fundraisers and what about your family? Our birthdays are coming up and I want you to be with you family," Detiny stated curiously. Destiny enjoyed his company but didn't want him to miss anything due to her condition. "I have lots of people helping me and my family is coming here for our birthdays. Destiny, I'm staying with you. It's my fault so I'm not leaving you until you can go home," Adam reported as he sat next to her on her hospital bed. "Why do you like me so much? Enough to spend every possible minute here? I know it's not because you think it's all your fault, so please tell me," Destiny curiously wondered. "I like you because your you, and your always there for me," Adam started.
Adam paused. "That it," Destiny questioned sadly. "You're cute, funny, outgoing, my best friend, and you make me happy," Adam finished. "Awwww. Thanks," Destiny gestured him over to her. Destiny looked into his eyes and smiled a great big smile. Adam kissed her forehead, looked into Destiny's sky-blue eyes and kissed her. She smiled. Destiny knew her life was going to be better. It was already 6:30 AM. "I got to go. I'll be back as soon as I can. I gotta help with set-up for the first fundraiser, so I'll be here about 10:00 PM. If I'll be later, I'd be sure to text you. Kay," Adam notified Destiny. "Alrighty. I'll be here, if not I'll be sure to have someone tell you," Destiny responded clenching Adam's hand. Adam was about half-way out of the door when he turned back and saw Destiny start to cry. Adam ran back in and gave her a big hug. "I promise you'll live." Adam let go and ran to the bus stop just in time. The bus was just turning the corner about 500 feet away when he made the stop. "Phew," Adam mumbled to himself. Adam got to school in time.
Adam helped set-up for the bake sale to raise money for Destiny. "Thanks again, Luke for doing this for me. I appreciate it," Adam thanked Luke. "Don't sweat it. Destiny is a special girl - she means a lot to you - I know she likes you, too. Go, be back early for her - I can handle it. Don't worry about me," Luke confirmed with Adam. Adam slapped Luke's back and thanked him once more before going to the bus stop. He had 10 minutes to relax before the bus was scheduled to arrive and depart. Adam saw little golden retreiver puppies for sale. He walked over to say "hi" to them. "Why, hello there. Are you interested in buying a puppy today?" The man asked with a very deep voice that sounded like he was part of an advertisement. "I wish. I can't afford it. My best friend needs major surgery and we can't afford anything else right now. Sorry," Adam sombered and he softly spoke the words. "What happened to your little friend?" The man asked a little concerned. "An accident. A giant tree fell on her. She's alive, but needs surgery or she won't lead a normal life," Adam went from speaking firmly to speaking in a low voice.
"What hospital," the man asked as his final question. "St. Thomas' Children's Hospital. Destiny Alps is my best friend," Adam joyously replied as he smiled and looked up to God. "Oh," said the man shocked it was a girl. "So, she's like your best friend that's a girlfriend. I see," said the man smiling at her. "Sorta. I got to go. Bye, Mr.!" Adam told the man as he raced off back to the bus stop after petting the little puppy who's name was Hope. The bus came and Adam got onto the bus and headed back to St. Thomas' Children's Hospital. The man stood by the puppies and told his wife to watch them as he took Hope in the car. He drove 1 1/2 hours to the hospital. Adam was there for about 30 minutes before. The man took the puppy and walked through the door. "Excuse me, sir. May I help you?" Said Dr. Tunks as he looked at the little golden puppy waging her tail in the man's arms. "Yes, please tell me where Destiny Alps is," the man answered looking over each of Dr. Tunk's shoulders eeing if she was on the first floor by any chance. "Why? Pets of yours aren't allowed," Dr. Tunks was about to throw him out until the man spoke. "This puppy, Hope, has Cancer and I want to give her to Hope. Hope's had surgery and now needs someone to care and love her. This is on the behalf of her best friend that came to me 2 hours ago. Please, doctor," the man spoke softly as he pleaded her so. "Follow me," Dr. Tunks said. She led him to room C34 on the 3rd floor.
Knock! Knock! "Who are you," Destiny questioned as the man walked through the door. "Hope," Adam asked. The man nodded. He handed Adam the puppy before he softly said, "go ahead. She's for you to, not me." Adam took Hope and gave it to Destiny. "Happy Birthday," Adam said crying to Destiny. "Her story is nothing like yours. She got Cancer when she was born and she had major surgery to help her live. Obviously she made it, but my home conditions aren't for her and needed a place. When Adam told me about you and how he wished he could've gotten one for you - it made me realize you deserved the puppy. Especially if it's your birthday," the man spoke the words of God. Destiny grabbed Adam's arm and started crying. "Thank you," Adam replied. The man left without name. He put on the counter as he left (when no one was looking), an envelope with "Everyone Deserves A Chance" written on the front. Inside was $50,000 cash addressed to Destiny Alps. The doctors looked at the man as he disappeared. Destiny told her mom about the man and how she got Hope. Her mom approved of both, which she hardly ever approved of anything - nonetheless of something from a stranger "Why," Destiny asked helplessly. "Because," Mrs. Renders began, "he's your birth father." © 2011 Lyghea |
