Amelia and JasonA Story by Lyghea“Finally,” shouted Mia, “school’s out!” Taylor and Mia walked out the doors hand in hand through the school doors. The sun was shining and the smiles on their faces were astonishing. “So when do you go to Michigan?” TJ asked Mia " TJ knew when Jay was going; Acts knew when Mia was going. “July 7th. And I’ll be there for 2 weeks. It’s going to be epic,” Mia shouted as she ran to Jay. TJ smiled and walked over when she saw Acts. “Hey, can I talk to you really quick,” Acts asked TJ. “Yeah. Sure,” TJ responded knowing they were going to talk about their set-up. TJ and Acts planned for Jay and Mia to go on vacation, at the same time. They did it because they liked each other. Jay and Mia didn’t know it was a set-up. But Mia knew Jay liked her along with Jay knowing Mia liked him. “Hey,” Jay began with a smile on his face, “What’s up? What are you doing this summer?” Jay asked Mia hoping to score a date with her. “Nothing much, just going to Michigan with my mom. What about you?” Mia sounded rather disappointed than happy. “I’m going to Michigan, too. Besides that, nothing really,” Jay said with an unsure look on his face. “I’m going to miss you. And as a secret between you and me,” Jay started to whisper, “I think TJ and Acts have something going on,” Jay spoke while grinning at Mia. Mia chuckled. Beep! Beep! ”That’s my dad. Guess I gotta go. I’ll see you around,” Jay said as he lightly touched Mia’s shoulder before leaving. Mia and walked home with TJ and Acts. Mia told TJ what Jay said. TJ grinned at looked at Acts. TJ responded, “Are you kidding me?! No! I’m sorry, but no!” TJ practically whispered so Acts didn’t hear and ask what she was talking about. By that time, they were home. Mia walked inside her house and looked around. Something was rather odd. She couldn’t put her finger on it so she left it alone. She went up stairs to her room to find her suitcase. Then it hit her " When is Jay going? " She thought about it as she packed her bag. She knew she was a few weeks early, but she didn’t care. Then she took out another bag and packed that one, too. She was going to spend the night at TJ’s. Mia was so excited. She took her bag and ran for the door. “I’ll be back in the morning. Love you!” Mia shouted to her mom. There was no reply by the time she raced out to door. She ran across the street and ran through the door. She met TJ in her room. She smiled creepily at Mia. “TJ! What goes on?” “Nothing…” TJ smirked. “Taylor! What did you do this time?” Mia shouted laughing more than being mad. “Ummmm…nothing. You’ll find out in a few weeks.” Mia looked at TJ suspiciously. “Come on. Don’t think about that. Let’s talk about your trip that’s in 3 weeks. Isn’t Jason going, too?” TJ asked excitedly. “Okay, fine. And yeah " I don’t know when though. Do you,” Amelia asked hoping for an answer. “Yeah. Around the same time you are. I doubt he’ll be anywhere near you, though " that’d be…weird and awkward,” TJ said laughing. “I know, right?!” Mia laughed loudly. Then continued talking for hours before them finally fell asleep. When they woke up the next morning, Mia packed and headed back home. Nothing really happened over the next few weeks. Finally, it was time. It was July 7th. Amelia was over whelmed and pumped for this trip. She started texting Amelia around 9:00 AM " she was texting every detail she possibly could. TJ kept putting smiley faces and telling Mia she just knew it was going to be a vacation worth enjoying and it’ll be a good memory. “How do you know? Taylor, what did you do?” Mia asked raising her eyebrows knowing she did something devious, but good. “Just tell me when you’re going swimming, okay?” TJ asked texting Mia back. “Ummmm…okay? Why?” Mia responded curiously. “Because then I got to tell Acts something,” TJ responded knowing what Mia was going to text back. “Oh. (; <3 “Mia responded to TJ while quietly laughing to herself. “Shut it!! (: gtg. Sorry. Text me tomorrow. Bye!!” TJ responded. Mia shut her phone. They finally arrived at Michigan. They left their car and took a Ferry over. Mia loved the house her mom got her. Mia took one of the smaller bed rooms and her mom took the other one. Their house was right by the beach. Mia explored for the rest of the night before she finally had dinner and just sat in her room writing about Jason. The next morning, Mia woke up, ate breakfast, and changed into her swimsuit and headed towards the water. She set her towel down on the sand and took out her phone. She looked at it for a minute before she searched TJ’s name. She texted TJ, “I’m at Lake Michigan, now what?” “Wait 2-5 minutes,” TJ responded. TJ quickly texted Acts and then Acts texted Jay. “Why should I go to swimming in Lake Michigan now? What’s so important there,” Jay asked a little unpleased Acts wouldn’t give him an answer. “Just go. You’ll thank me and TJ later,” Acts responded. He knew what Jay was going to put because he put ‘me and TJ’. “Of course your girlfriend. You should tell TJ she’s allowed to tell Mia. It really isn’t fair and you know it,” Jay responded demandingly. “Fine. Go to Lake Michigan and I’ll tell TJ she can tell Mia. Deal,” Acts texted back. “Deal,” Jay texted Acts. Jay planned on telling Mia if Acts didn’t. He didn’t think it was fair at all. Jay got dressed into his swimsuit and headed down to the lake. Mia was swimming. Jay looked around and decided to take a swim. Mia noticed him and couldn’t believe it. She swam closer to shore. “Mia?! You’ve got to be kidding me!” Jay said as he walked over. Mia was sitting in the water. “Hey, Jay,” Mia responded smiling cheerfully. Jay sat down next to Mia. Mia smiles and looks at him. She notices he was looking at her also; she quickly turns her head away. Jay turned to her and asked, “So, what did you have planned for the next 2 weeks?” Jay asked her with hope on his mind. “Nothing really. Probably just swimming and walking around a bit. What about you,” Mia asked while she was biting on her thumb. “Nothing. Just chillin’ like you. That’s about it,” Jay answered back smiling at her. “You still like me, right,” Mia asked doubtfully. “Here " Take my hand. I wanna show you something.” Mia took Jay’s hand. They ran to the roof of an abandoned house a block away. “This is so beautiful,” Mia said as she looked around and saw the forest. The lake wasn’t in sight. “I wanted to show you this. I found it last year " I kinda have connections,” Jay said chuckling lightly, “I think it’s a better view of the trees themselves and the forest altogether.” “Mhmmm,” Mia responded as she sat down to admire it. It only took about 5 minutes before she got a call. “Amelia! Time to come in!” “Okay. I’ll be there in like 3 minutes. Just gotta grab my towel and stuff. Kay?” “Fine. Let’s go though! You can go back out later. “Okay mom! Bye!” Mia hung up. “I gotta go. Sorry Jay,” Mia told Jay as she let’s go of Jay’s hand. Mia started to walk home. Jay followed her and grabbed her hand again. “Later?” “I’ll love that,” Mia replied biting her lip. She let go of Jay’s hand and ran inside. Mia and her mom had lunch, explored a little bit, then had dinner that night. “May I please go back out? Please,” Mia pleaded. “Sure. Back by 11:00 PM, though. Okay?” “Okay,” Mia said running out the door with her phone. Jay was out front. It was already 9:00 PM. Mia loved the idea of holding hands with Jason. She didn’t want to grab his hand with fear he’ll make it awkward. Mia just waited and hoped as they started walking towards the house. “So…what are we going to do,” Mia asked nervously. “I don’t know. I was thinking just stargazing and talking would be good. Anything else you wanted to do?” Jay asked grabbing her hand. Mia closed her eyes and smiled for a few seconds before replying. “Nope. That’s fine by me.” They climbed back onto the rooftop and lay down. They were still holding hands. “Why me?” Mia asked as she was looking for the Big Dipper in the stars. Jay turned his head towards her. “What do you mean,” Jay asked unknowingly. “Why me? Why, out of all the other girls who are prettier and smarter and everything, why’d you pick me?” Mia asked incautiously. Jay looked into her gray eyes which were gleaming because of the moon. “Because all the other girls try too hard. You’re perfect the way you are. You understand life’s difficulties the most and you’re so unpredictable. I like you for you. Not because you’re a fake. Please, don’t ever change. Which brings curiosity to me " Why’d you pick me?” Jay answered sweetly and confidently. “Because. You understand and know me better than anyone. You don’t take me for granite and you show why I should always be myself no matter what happens in life,” Mia answered " not noticing Jay moved closer to her. Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Mia’s phone went off. “Oh no! I have to be home in 5 minutes!” Mia exclaimed as she sat up. “Come on! Let’s go. It should take like 3 minutes walking. Not that long " there’s a short cut I know of. Follow me,” Jay said as he led Mia down the stairs. They cut through some woods and went past a lake before they finally got back to Mia’s house. “And 2 minutes to spare!” Jay said while chuckling. “Yep. Thanks…for everything,” Mia responded. “No need to thank me. I like you for who you are. That’s all that matters. I really like you, Mia,” Jay said grabbing her other hand. Jay was now holding both of Mia’s hands. “I really like you, too, Jay. I’m thanking you because you’re the first person who isn’t afraid to tell me he likes me. I’m thankful for that,” Mia said avoiding eye contact before she looked back up into Jason’s beautiful green eyes. Jay smiled and hugged Mia tightly. “There’s no need to hide anymore " I’ll always be here for you,” Jay spoke softly into Mia’s ear. Mia smiled at Jay after he said that. Jay stopped hugging Mia and said, “Go inside before you get into trouble. I’ll text you in the morning and maybe we can take a swim. Okay?” Mia bit her lower lip and smiled. “Great. See you later,” Mia said as she gave him one last hug and ran inside. As soon as Mia went inside, Jay took his phone out. He recorded what he said to Mia. He sent it to Acts along with a message saying, “I did it for the one I like " and I’m not even dating her. I told her she didn’t need to hide us. There is no need for secrets. Acts; it’s time.” Acts received the message and sighed. TJ was sitting next to him and she heard him. “What’s wrong,” TJ asked. TJ and Acts were holding hands at the time. “Listen,” Acts told TJ " TJ listened and read the message. TJ looked at him. “Tell her.” Acts said as he took his phone from TJ’s hand. “I can? Really,” TJ asked sounded happy and joyful. TJ called Mia at the exact moment. “Hey,” TJ said as she heard Mia pick up. “Hey, TJ! What’s up?” Mia answered sounding rather odd. “Spent the night with Jay I can tell,” TJ responded merrily. “Yeah. I really like him. Why’d you call,” Mia asked worriedly. “I’m dating Aquila. I meant to tell you, but Acts didn’t want anyone knowing,” TJ said. There was a long silence. “Why,” Mia finally asked. “Why what,” TJ asked confused. “Why are you dating him?” Mia was hoping for an answer better than the usual ‘I don’t know’. “Because I really like him and he’s really nice and he makes me feel safe and " just about everything " just like you like Jay. The reasons for that,” TJ answered hoping her best friend would forgive her. “Oh,” Mia replied. “I’m really sorry I kept this from you,” TJ said, “Please don’t be mad at me.” “I’m not " just surprised, that’s all,” Mia replied after listening to TJ. Mia laughed. TJ laughed with her. “Hey, Gotta go. Sorry Bye,” TJ said. “Have fun with your boyfriend!” Mia replied then hanging up so she wouldn’t be questioned on how she knew Aquila was sitting next to her. The next morning Mia woke up to a text. “Hey, Mia (: “ It was from Jay. “Hey,” Mia replied back. “Wanna go for a swim,” Jay asked. “Sure. Meet me at the lake in 5 minutes. Okay,” Mia answered. “Yep. No problem. See you in a few (: “Jay answered back. Mia got changed and went down to the beach. She sat in the water, again, as usual. “Hey, Mia!” Jay shouted from shore. Jay walked over. “Did you know TJ and Acts were dating,” Mia asked Jay. “Yeah, I thought you knew. Sorry,” Jay said. “It’s not a problem " I was just curious. That’s all,” Mia said. Jay grabbed her hand. After about a minute or so of silence, Jason put his arm around Mia. Mia moved over and put her head on Jay’s shoulder. Jay hugged her. “You’re my girlfriend, right?” Jay asked worriedly. He was hoping Mia would reply positively. “Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes,” Mia replied many times. Jay let go for a split second. Mia hugged him instead for a change, and when she let go she grabbed his hand. They smiled happily at each other. This was just the beginning of Amelia and Jason.
