Make it Through the Day

Make it Through the Day

A Poem by Tatyana

They stare at me with judging eyes.
I look back,
mine ever so hollow.

I couldn't care less
about what people think of me.
I had to stop when I learned
what they were saying.

With purple rings under my eyes
and dark thoughts in my head,
I continue to walk
my path of silence.

I walk absentmindedly,
tuning the world out with my headphones.
One step in front of the other.
Make it through the day.

Most days I wake up in the afternoon,
take naps in the evening,
and fall asleep in the morning.
But that exhausts me.

Make it through the day.

I live in small fear that someone
will realize what I am doing.
The talking will start again.
The eyes will glare.
The fingers will point.

Make it through the day.

Empty laughter rings.
Hollow eyes,
hidden,
by a broad smile.

I waver.
Can I make it through the day?
I lay down to rest.
Tomorrow is another day.
