A Poem by tiefightersunite

I am the shadow behind trees,

The whisper between the branches

That you cannot account for in the still night.

Green are my eyes like my children in the soil,

And silver is my hair, silver like the ages of men I have lived.

I sleep not, but lie in rest between the boughs

Breathing in the rich soil as my sustenance

Bathing in the cool forest springs where

The water tumbling over the rocks is my song.

I sing life into buds in springtime, call those dormant into waking

In the dead of winter I guard those who sleep, and

Whisper softly to the seeds buried deep under the surface,

Waiting for a breath of warmth.

Creatures here are my family, they who call to me in the dark

Eyes like lanterns beside the trail,

Fluttering between the stalks and crawling over the grass

And this trail I tend to, for if you ever wander off

If you think you see something in the distance, away

Into the tangled depths of Mirkwood, never again

Shall your feet find their way home.
