I'm Like A BookA Poem by Richard MuellerFor once, this is a poem that truly describes me as a person. I am looking for a true voice. Not just my voice through writing. I want to open up to people through verbal means.
See, I'm like a book
The words are my mind Impeccable, a thought process that shines It intertwines with what I truly feel Who I truly am, telling my story with a certain zeal The pages themselves are my heart The home for my feelings of which are my words Impulsive, but caring for those who deserve My passion and my tender loving as they bring to me and share I'm wide open for those who want to see The real me is calling out to him and her and them To read my mind and to feel my heart So with themselves, to an extent, of me they'll carry a part But what really sucks is when they close me They look at the cover, the horrid aesthetic It throws them for a loop... They don't see the real me They see what they want to see and so I can't make them yield to their emotions But what about this book's emotions? I have a voice but no one wants to take the time To sit down and listen and hear something sublime All because what they see on my outside is all but satisfying See? I'm just like a book And there is simply no hook Because there is nothing to look at All due to the fact that, apparently, the outside justifies my inside © 2016 Richard MuellerAuthor's Note
