The Mask

The Mask

A Poem by tiana hernandez

Do you wear one?
Do you cover?
Do you hide?
Are you afraid?

People wear one all the time
People cover themselves all the time
Many always hide
While many are afraid

They wear a mask
A mask to cover who they are
To hide from the world
Because they are afraid

Afraid of taking it off
To show
The truth
And be strong

To wear one to cover the marks
The marks of reality of pain or suffrage?
Of what they hide from everyday?
Or what they are afraid of everyday?

You see many go through this
Many wear a mask
Whether it is a smile
Some makeup
A hoodie to cover

Don't wear a mask
Don't cover
Or be afraid
Or hide

Take off the mask
Let the darkness down
Be brighter
Be who you are
Be strong and face your fears
Never hide, cover, or even be afraid of anything
Because you are worth so much more then to be hidden
