Taking StockA Poem by ThrushsongThere's something missing...
I took inventory of my life today
Piles of memories grown dusty A few friendships getting stale I've got lessons learned too late Forgotten dreams fallen under my bed And an empty shelf where love should have been When did this become broken? When did I lose that piece? Why didn't I notice When things got all wrong And why am I missing you still? I still see your smile on a stranger But I can't find your face in my life Except under stacks of old photos Or in dusty dreams under the mattress I swore I'd forgotten what you were And filled the place you used to be But I took inventory of my life today And all that counted was the absence of you. © 2010 Thrushsong |
