Samantha's DreamA Story by Jason WhiteSamantha, a little girl adventurer, had a dream containing some important information... and this is the completely embellished dream she told when the party started comparing notes..."Well... I dreamed Uncle and me were playing tag in the forest clearing with three squirrels named gUlp, CHitter, and sQueak when a large male unicorn walked through the forest clearing... His coat was all white and his spirally horn and hoofs were all golden, and his eyes were blue like an ocean on a calm day. He was beautiful. "Uncle", she began while looking at her pet raccoon, "Well he asked 'What do you call a horny unicorn?' I don't remember him ever talking before. When I said I didn't know, he replied 'Corny!' and started laughing big ol' belly laughs. I didn't get it. Mr. Unicorn must not of liked it either because he started to leave but with a sideways head nod thingy like he wanted me to follow. It looked really odd for his... oddly shaped head. Do you think it's true that unicorns have two horns that grow together like lovers entwined in each others arms? That'd be ever so romantic!" Samantha says in three breaths punctuated by hand clapping and ending with a little blushing. "Then Mr. Unicorn, Uncle, and me were by the river but I don't remember how we got there. Must have been magic. So then Mr. River stood up and the four of us began to dance together on Mr. River's bed to the music of wooden wind chimes. It was beautiful. "On the other side of the dry bed, an old farmer... Well, old may not be the right word. He wasn't all toothless or gray hair old, just like married and second baby-ish old. Well, the old-but-not-old farmer; he ran out of corn, jumped off the embankment, and landed square on Mr. Unicorn's head. Mr. Unicorn's horn was sticking out of his back, except it was all silvery, curvy, and flat like a sliver of moon. "But then, Mr. Unicorn was gone. Holding the sliver of moon was the farmer's shadow. His shadow must have been really mad at him because he pushed him off his moon and began chopping him like he was lettuce for a salad. The river didn't like this, so it went back to bed and washed us all away. "Uncle and me don't swim real well, but with the river helped by rolling over and putting us on the bank before going back to sleep. We tried going back to the clearing to play with gUlp, CHitter, and sQueak but they wouldn't come out; even for nuts. Uncle said it was because of the bad smell left all over our clothes from the red stuff in the river. "Then I woke up and Uncle couldn't talk anymore. I was really sad.” © 2013 Jason White |
