Dean and I camped out behind the shelter in Des Moines. There was a nice patch of woods north of the river. We canned every day to knock off the shakes. Summer turned into Fall and life raked us in. Dean moved in with a friend, and I went to this woman's apartment.
We eventually got married; it didn't last long. That's been years ago. I lost track of Dean for a long time. By chance, we stumbled upon each other via the internet.
F*****g life! He has stage 3 colon cancer. Reality can be rancid sometimes. he's still camping, and he has a woman who loves him. What more could you want?
powerfully told. a reality i know all too well. i met george, a nice guy, at the homeless shelter. he was going blind, had heart problems and had a colostomy due to colon cancer and was having chemo. i got an apartment and moved on. i now hear that he dropped dead in the bathroom there. we just never know. i felt this and have lived it.

Thank you, Pete. I appreciate the read and comment.
Powerful thoughts written and expressed well. Life deals different deck of cards to everyone, we never have control of what cards we are dealt with. Life is but a mystery, just a journey we can take and keep journeying on with what comes our way. But yes, what more could you want? some get lucky, some don't, some may be thinking they aren't. Life is all but acceptance. Thanks much for writing and sharing this, Thomas.
