My natural instinct in
this flesh wrapped soul,
is to anestasize the
pain and ugliness of life.
Blackout the brutality and
cruelty in the world.
Close my eyes with booze,
drugs, sex, anything to
stop the oozing pain.

And then it dawned on me,
like the dew soaked morning,
opposite action is required.
Walk through the
pain with eyes wide open.
Let love and YHWH hold my
hand.
Sober, head held high.
Call me sentimental and foolish,
but I'm a real mother f****r.

I'm going to embrace the beauty.
It is all around me.
It's painted in the
sunset of the robin's breast.
It's in the
sublime melody of
the starry Night.
It's written in the
faces of all my brothers and
sisters in their pain and
struggles.

Love is the answer to
every question;
I have to die to grow;
like a seed, a cell,
a fractured heart.
Bring it On Life!
If you knock me down,
I'm getting back up.
I'm resilient, and
no longer afraid.
Yes, this world can be
brutal, and we often
lose the ones we love,
but I'm choosing
today, in this moment, to
take this wild ride called
life, and live it, and
love every second I have
left.

Then, I can leave victorious.
What the f**k?
Everybody wants to win.

so true. life is all in attitude. shutting down and drowning sorrows robs us and causes one to lose. this reads like a manifesto for a positive life and not letting evil win. well said and thought provoking. good motivational fodder to digest.

Thanks, Pete. I appreciate that.
dropping the old for the new in such a poetic manner is astounding
we just need to change the way we see things
then life would be easier,

How wonderful to leave the old 'life' behind and enter into the present moment in time! We have to walk through the fire of everyday life and both acknowledge and accept it before we can fully heal from it. We have to die to 'ourselves' in order to be replanted and grow again. Fear exits the mind when we are mindful, awake and aware because it finally dawns on us that there is nothing to fear in this world or in the world of Spirit where we came from to live this lifetime and lifetimes past and future. This may surprise you Thomas and I would like to know if you agree or not, but this poem to me is a very spiritual one! I feel that your spirit 'wrapped in flesh' has evolved so much through all that your mind and body has endured and now that you are living in the light, you are the light, shine it brightly for everyone to see, especially those who are still in very dark places. Your light will be like a lighthouse beacon to all. Wonderful write! Very powerful and could be life changing for a reader who needs to change. Well done! Kudos well deserved and Thank you! for sharing, Thomas...

Most welcome always, dear poet...
This. I'm a increasingly sentimental old man myself. Cheers.

Thanks, John. Cheers.
Yes, we have to die to live...
experience pain and bleed just to know we're alive...as that one song says.
Poets get knocked down and then write back up.
