Her Soul Aches

Her Soul Aches

"
Her skin is full
of holes, and
she's raped by
the dawn on a
daily basis;
wandering the midnight
streets of this
broken City.
Her feet are
calloused and raw.
That once tough heart is
soft now, looking for
love in the rabid
faces of evil.
Seagulls still fly into
cars, and spiders
spin webs in the dark.
Abandoned houses have
become her home
and her soul aches
for someone to hold.
Sometimes,
dreams float by,
like a dragonfly
on a soft breeze.

The hardship of city life for someone who is homeless is so finely captured and expressed in this very poignant story from life's other side, Thomas. Living in abandoned housing, living in fear, open to the evils which face a woman who is alone in life without help or support from anyone is so finely summarised in this very touching, heart rending and sad poem. The loneliness is palpable but I am so happy to read she still has her dreams. I loveeeeeeeeee how you express that in the following lines:
"Sometimes,
dreams float by,
like a dragonfly
on a soft breeze".
So poetically expressed! An outstanding write, Thomas. Kudos well deserved...

Thank you so much.
This poem is a reflection of broken hopes of a loving woman longing for love, the idea is drawn through these lines beautifully, a touching read!

Thank you for reading and commenting.
The ending being so different to the stark and raw images comes as such a twist. Loved it!

"Seagulls still fly into
cars, and spiders
spin webs in the dark."

Loved these lines Thomas!
