A Rich Man

A Rich Man

A Poem by Thomas W Case

I don't vacation
in Babylon anymore.
The ticket prices soared
and the trip
almost killed me.
Years of
debauchery weren't
good for the soul.

The only gold I
want now is the
autumn leaves and
the buttery summer corn,
and the shimmer on the
lake at sunset.

I'm getting older and
my heart is stronger.
It beats like a
childs, seeing
green for the first
time.

Flights get more expensive with each passing season and as you so poetically say, as we get older our bodies are able to tolerate less and you have found your paradise in your own back yard. Your own little piece of heaven on earth, where the sun shines warmly and brightly. How wonderful that you have rediscovered the beauty of Mother Nature and that your inner child is filled with delight. Relax and enjoy the beautiful blessings which surround you. Lovely charming write, Thomas. A delight to read and thank you for sharing...

Well said, well written, a moral follows after delicious words, full of life.. then honesty laid in the best possible colour, sir! Here I know the life you mean, peaceful and kindly. That, in spite of all the seasons on one day now and again! The all about offers gifts that could never be bought, they are free for those who want to live uncluttered without the dark and dismal, without devils and trolls but - the gentle, subtle and humble daisy in a meadow under a golden sun. Beautiful, Thomas.

I could not agree more. I appreciate you.
There is something to be said for simplicity and peace. Don’t get me wrong I like a good adventure here and there but soothing peace and watching the setting sun glisten off a lake or ocean if you live near , is magical.

You are welcome
I get the feeling the Babylon to which you refer is Las Vegas.

Certainly, one of them I've been to...unfortunately, many more. Thank you, kind sir.
It may beat stronger from wisdom. The older I get, simplicity seems more attractive than expensive vacations and bought things.

Your writing is clear and concise, always.

Great poem.

Thank you, my friend.
There is so much wealth in Mother Nature. This is an appreciation of finding that out in latter years. Beautiful read Thomas.
