Piano notes drift in the
rainy evening,
like sadness from a
clock.
You were the color
in my dreams.
The paint on my
canvas.

The stress is on the past. The words seem drenched in sadness and also regret. It's interesting that you never mention it anywhere in the poem and yet I could picture the colour in the poet's dream and the paint on the canvass, wet and running. You just mentioned the rainy evening and I could place it all together in my mind. This is true poetry! Loved it.

Wow! What a symphony you create in this beautifully penned poem, Thomas! The sadness from the clock blends magically with the evenings rain, both tuned to each other to create a very musical evening. Now that 'she' has gone, the colours of life have faded and everything seems in black and white. I love the description:
"You were the color
in my dreams.
The paint on my
canvas".
ou were the color
in my dreams.
The paint on my
canvas. Very poignant and the weather seems to be in sympathy with your feelings: Pathetic fallacy (Pathetic fallacy is the projection of human emotions onto non-human objects found in nature. It differs from personification, which can give any human characteristic to an object, and it is used to create tone or show a character's state of mind. An example would be “the rain fell like teardrops”). Lovely touch to a finely expressed poem with so much conveyed in so few words. Amazing poem! Thank you for sharing...

Most welcome, as always, Thomas...
A heart touching piece there! Loving the reference of piano notes blending with raindrops creating a symphony of melancholy together, and the artistic muse it ends with, beautiful poem!

Thank you so much. I appreciate that.
Start to finish, these words are yours. Brief, sincere, full of colour, full of you, Thomas; heartfelt words - not merely laid-out to impress.

Thank you, my friend. Appreciated.
Many loves were lost in the rain. It drips drips and washes all out. Nicely written.

Pain indeed!

Every image just drips with sadness leaving the reader in no doubt as to the emotions behind the words. It always seems to rain when we are in the depths of such moments, both literally and figuratively. All seems lost and the colour has just leaked from your world.

A poignant poem.

Thank you, Soren. I appreciate it.
Such a feeling of loss and sadness here. The canvas is devoid of colour and wet from tears. The piano notes are mournful. Great brevity Thomas.
