Abandoned City

Abandoned City

A Poem by Thomas Kainaroi

Abandoned city.
It's all dark
Except for the few faint
Ghost lights in the windows.

Go through it,
Through the streets,
Then the buildings,
And the places underneath.

Be patient,
And let recognition
Take shape.

No one's there,
Save the phantom of your night body.
Float into the walls.

You may hear music,
Or something like laughter and bells,
But that's just your dream self,
Hypnotized and dancing.

Take three turns.
Whisper, hold the candle but
Don't remove the flame.

If anything, just breathe in the most possible manner.

Try to make a ceremony of it.
It's all empty space,
But it's all for you.

Cleanna isn't dead,
She just changes form.

The prince waits.

Interesting Ghost poem. I wasn't too sure I liked the structure of this. I couldn't help but notice the constant variation of your stanza's even in the beginnings. You had some good visualizations. A town at night, a non-physical existence. The prince who waits years after years. The ending made me curious, is he deluded thinking Cleanna isn't dead - does he ever see her again. Like I said, very interesting. Thanks for the read.
