Things I Can Do With A White CanvasA Poem by thisopenbookI once tried to get out my anger by painting... needless to say, I wrote a poem about it insteadIn front of me lies pen, paper, and paint
In my midst leans a white canvas
Into which I vent my feelings
Or rather...my frustrations
Shall I pick up the pen to write eloquent lines of cursing, forbodding poetry?
The rhyme to no reason to bring about its own melody?
Melody of your delicate sounding lies...
As pleasing to the ear as the poetry I now struggle to dictate
The stories of betrayals....daring to flow from your lips?
Words themselves stirring up inside, akin to utter rage
To your blatant disregard...
Ok... perhaps another mode to vent my feelings..
With pencil, I draw bold, dashing lines
Your likeness staring back at me through the paper
Your smile and the speech bubble "I love you."
Echoing from your lips
Wait... this is not your face
Erase the ends of the smile
Easily, almost too easily, into a scowl
Erase the word love to the word hate
Just like how quickly you changed those words on me
The expressions of your face transitioning with a flick of the corner's of your mouth
Erase the picture... wish I could erase your memory
Pick up a brush to slash vibrant color across a blank waiting sheet
Angry reds, violent hues streaked wrecklessly on the canvas... and myself
Marking your areas of distaste with my supposed less-than-adequate existance
Effortlessly sliding your own brush upon me
To change my "imperfections" and "fix" my appearance
No realisation of the manslaughter of which innocence is the victom
Now the pencil is interwoven with the lines... like the lies you entwined that soon snared and caught you
The pen runs out on me... and so had he
Clutching the canvas with white knuckles, face ashen at the memories..............
Wouldn't it have been simpler to hit you with the canvas instead? © 2013 thisopenbook |
