Escape

Escape

A Poem by Sarah Marie

The voices say that there is no escape-
There is plague as far as the eye can see,
And saving oneself is unlikely
In a world that will never let one be.
The oceans are set ablaze, red with fire
From the anguish and torment of children;
The mountain air is no longer sweet,
Breaths now gasps from ashes of men
And the only sounds to be echoed
Are from their wives, widowed women
Who cannot find another soul
In this sickness and darkness and sin.
One can drown or one can suffocate
As the waves reach the sunrise;
Rocks crumble and caves fall in,
All buried alive until the last one dies.
There is no escape in such a world;
There is no hope in such a place-
This can never be, for not one would survive;
Of the human race there would be not a trace.
