What They See

What They See

A Poem by Sarah Marie

The mirror can be evil or kind,
Depending on the feel of the day's start;
Lies usually outweigh acceptance,
Believing but the eyes, windows to your heart.
Parents will see you as a young child,
Siblings as the greatest of royal rivals;
Friends see but your secrets and dreams,
Hiding from others your fears and denials.
Acquaintances see but how you act,
Never knowing if true or asking for more;
Strangers see but the appearance,
Both beauties and flaws galore.
Enemies will think you perfect and clever,
Yet will say you are cruel, plain, and dull;
Lovers will see only what you have to offer,
Yet a love will see you on a pedestal.
