Glare

Glare

A Poem by Sarah Marie

A smile is only as effective
As the meaning behind it.
Others can see the sincerity
Lacking in a forced grin;
Yet few know the heartache
In a pitiful, desperate smile.
A frown is only as noticeable
As the meaning behind it.
Often boredom is the most desired,
For alternatives are too sad to bear.
A glare is only as powerful
As the meaning behind it.
A glare to those who do not know
Or worse-do not care-
Is consumed in useless spite;
And a glare to oneself-
This contains the most pain.
