Held Captive

Held Captive

A Poem by Sarah Marie

Slave to self
Receives no help.
Oppression in one's own name
Does no more than abuse and maim.
Chains fastened around ankles numb,
No visitors will ever come;
From leather whips infected lashes,
Freedom a dream as more time passes.
A broken prisoner with not enemy nor guard,
Mutilations in words as sharp as glass shards;
Desires to be made anew deep down,
Lost forever as they struggle yet eventually drown.
Bondage in swollen eyes and sweating brow,
None other allowed;
Walls erected by one's own plea, thickest stone,
Captive living in this prison alone-
May it all crumble to dust,
The bars in windows rust.
Slave to self
Requires most help.
Depression intertwined in reliance
Until this self-pitying song is silenced.

This stuns the soul. You speak so deeply of those scars etched in heart and mind, and the pain that bleeds into dreams and day. It hurts just sitting here unable to loose the chains.
