Dream

Dream

A Poem by Sarah Marie

Lie down, child,
And don't you wonder
Where your mother's gone.
She's left you all alone,
Tucked in your blankets red
In hopes you might go to bed;
Have your dreams
And find your peace
While you drift to a quiet sleep.
Don't you wake
And steal from your room
Until morning kisses goodbye a silver moon-
For your mother's sake.
Lay your head
On your pillow hill lest
You are enticed to leave your rest.
Dream your dreams
Until you tire of the fact
They never are how they seem.
Dream your dreams,
Captain a pirates' fleet
While you drift to sleep.
Lead an army
Of armored steeds
To coax you to a dreamless sleep.
Win the race,
Dress in lace-
Whatever to keep the smile on your face
Even when you finally wake-
Yet not for awhile
For your mother's sake
