Her Tiara

Her Tiara

A Poem by Sarah Marie

The princess wears her crown
Every moment of every day-
Her tiara is her closest friend,
Her hope in times of great despair
And self-pity and worry
For what is to be.
Her crown is adorned in the brightest gems,
Jewels unlike any other;
Her tiara is not for fashion
But only as a reminder-
The five jewels in front all
Have a meaning only the princess
Knows and understands.
The smallest of the five is an emerald,
Sparkling in strength on the far left;
When she stares into its shine,
She cannot help but wonder
If she will always be able to live how she does,
Without a care but always being cared for.
Farthest from it is the sapphire,
A constant reminder to the princess to fear the chance
Of losing more than subjects but the most loyal
Of all who she knows and can call her friends.
In the middle is the ruby,
Rare like the love she can only pray to find-
A love not for royalty or in beauty's eyes,
But one she can call unlike anything she has ever known.
Beside it is the pearl
Which makes up her whole world,
Her future in its cloudy gaze as it overlooks her present
And takes note of all which is to change.
The diamond causes her the most fear,
Princess wondering if she does shine
As brightly and can be as strong
When it is her time to reign-
She wonders if she can uphold her name.
The princess wears her crown
Lest she falls into pride
And other wicked acts which could threaten her name.
