Burn

Burn

A Poem by Sarah Marie

Love sparks the soul-
It strikes the wick;
It causes all but hunger
And one to feel sick.
The match is lit-
The heart is afire;
The wax is memory,
Its slow descent desire.
It makes the body burn-
It makes one shiver;
It hits like an arrow
From Cupid's quiver.
Yet what happens
When the love fades?
What is to be
Of the promises made?
Forever smoldering ash
Is all which remains
When tears put out the fire;
Things cannot be the same
As they once were
Before the greatest of pains
Overtook the heart
And made the mind lame.
