Fate

Fate

A Poem by Sarah Marie
"

I think the concept of fate is both accepted and denied for various reasons...It is a very interesting idea. This is my take on the general view of fate-not necessarily my own.

"
Fate
Is a lonely mistress;
How one can call herself so
Must be empowering-
Frightening.
To hold the lives of countless
Innocents in the palm of one’s hand-
Only a fool would choose this,
Choose watching others lead lives
And knowing the same for oneself
Would never be possible.
Fate is a wicked mistress.
How she thinks she can decide
What is right for me and what is best-
Do I have no say in the short years,
In the precious moments that pass by
In the blink of a teary eye?
What about my longings and my dreams-
Do they even matter?
I dare not ask if she could cease,
For I know better than to tempt fate.
I often wonder if the paths I have chosen
And continue to choose each day
Were paths constructed by my own design,
Roads I alone decided to travel;
Is there any hope-any chance at all
That the steps I take were not predestined?
Even those who believe in this she-demon
Are not safe; rather, they are plagued
To understand why things are as they are,
To know fighting is futile and protest is prohibited.
Fate is a cruel mistress indeed,
Yet there are times I find myself wondering,
Even thanking her for the good things in my life;
Whether I am one to believe in destiny or not,
I do know the results-the relief or joy or pain felt
Every day in response to every choice.
My mien is made by how I have reacted-
Though I do not wish to relive it, I must thank
Every minute of doubt and sadness and suffering,
Heartache, and the bitter taste of betrayal,
Opportunities to forgive, forsake, or walk away-
Fate is a curious mistress I dread to meet.

Ah, what a two faced figure is fate! For the balence of lifes, good and bad, innocent and evil, dance along her fingers and twist along her whispered words.....

Oops.....darn it, this is suppost to be a review! And now it's all scribbley with my ramblings! :(
ANYHOO, just wants to say what a wonderful job you did on this poem! Very insightful, consitering the many viewpoints of Fate, and you accomplished it brilliantly and with style! :) Wonderful! The deep ancientness and at the same time newness of this poem is amazing to experience and read....very nicely done! X)

ANARCHY FOR US!!!! XD
This one echoes across the ages.. the Fates.. those who leave us little will or whim. This is strikingly deep and profound. Yes, there is much beyond our control... yet much is within our power to release by our wills. Love the greatest of these. xx

I could not agree more...will is an amazing, powerful thing, and love is the most beautiful result.

Wow, so beautiful! I loved the imagery and sort of angst over the poem, it really created a poignant, bittersweet tone.

This is really good! I personally don't believe in fate, but I love it anyways. Keep it up!
