Without the RainA Poem by Sarah MarieWhat is a storm Without the rain? Does it not know Even a hint of shame When all it has Is a proud thunder’s roll, Booming and demanding And as black as coal; Or a quick lightning flash, Here one second then gone the next? Does the storm truly not Feel second best? I pour out my soul So that gray clouds Might pour out the rain. What is the storm Without its purity, The rejuvenating rain Washing away the world’s worry? It is just noise! It is just light Without Heaven’s tears Which washes away my own! May the storm groan, And may it be bold; But one will never feel cleansed Or as if he or she is in the hold Of God Himself Without the rain, God’s fingertips Reaching down to stroke away His child’s tears for another day. May the storm learn, And may it grow- But may it always do so With the rushing, rinsing rain.
