Release Me

I am drowning  in a sea

Of other people’s desires,

The current of selfishness

Only traveling their way;

And not one seems willing

To swim out and meet me halfway-

I too have needs and wants,

Yet mine are pulling me down

Far from the shore with the tide.

I am burning in a fire

Lit by needless passions

For the most foolish things,

By great tempers and short-lived anger,

Burning in emotions

Not my own;

Yet none seem to even care

To stifle these engulfing flames.

Does no one hear my whispers,

And does no one try

To make out my heart’s cry?

Will not a soul

Release my own?
