Remember ThemA Poem by Sarah MarieWe offer them salutes and cheers, These good ole girls and boys; We shed sad and mourning tears, But some are fortunate and cry for joy. They leave this land for another, One so far away and unlike this; They join together as sisters and brothers, Heroes of what this family consists. They train through pain to fight or die, Human sacrifices and machines Against those who would deny America shall always stand free When behind the forces of these fighters, The country’s strength in their bones; We raise the flag quickly higher, Thinking as we stand as still as stone And offer these people a prayer Of thanks and safety and good health- They fall and rise, the country their care, Fighting and dying for all, not just for self. War takes, war breaks, and war kills; War clings to the hearts of all it has greeted; War has strength in numbers and an iron will, But these men and women daily prove That war can be defeated.
