The New Year's Box

The New Year's Box

A Poem by Katherine
"

A poem I wrote to bring in the year 2010.

"

Crack open the tiny brown box

Wooden and untouched

Slide your burdens inside

Stow away the hard feelings

The forgotten friends

The insisting enemies

Tuck them into the box

Close the lid

And burn it

'New Year'

Means not

'New Life'

And yet we pack away

Negativity

Set our eyes

At the sky

Limitless and filled

With bright fire lights

Gunshot, bang, crackling

Splitting noises

Seal the box shut

Empty mind

Ready to be filled

With positivity

Contemplated resolutions

Great successes

Unimaginable dreams

A good start for this year

And yet we find ourselves

Three-hundred and sixty-five days from now

Opening the box

Stashing away our burdens

And re-emptying our minds

And the people chant

"Happy New Year!"
