Ode to a Mentor: In Memoriam to Myron SigelmanA Poem by Writer *78*About a friend of mine that passed away about a year a go. Wrote it on the day of his death I feel content putting it up for people to see.You made the creative mind meet its muse, Sparks igniting within its own space causing ideas to flow, From pen to paper; page to screen. When we talked our 'writing' thoughts met, Discussing our love for the craft, That is putting a piece of our soul into one's work. Having the power to reach into the deepest abyss, Of ourselves as well as others, With our own words... Retaining a power that comes from within. You have inspired generations of people, Driven them to their passions, For me, my friend, you have done the same. You still do to this day, Your hand from beyond guides my pen, And leads me to my fate, To do what you have done, and become an author. You said to me once, "People won't take you seriously until you make something of yourself." I believe you even now, Since your passing, I have become stoic on my path, My work drenched with inspiration. In this world one is run by ambition, But one is also fueled by success, What they don't tell you is that you can be corrupt and ultimately ruined by it. I know I have the ambition to go forward, Knowing I'll do my best, Not letting success' addle my clarity. You have been with me the entire way, Encouraging me to meet with my creative influence constantly, Thus inspiring me to become a better writer, It is you that has done this to me. You told me once that "words have power" I realize now that your observation was right, Words do have power; having an affect on society and its people. Only hoping that my words have the power, To influence a higher intellect, Thus, my career takes off flourishing; catching the minds of the young and mature. Know this, you'll always be in my heart my dear friend, I hope that you will come to me in the 'wee' hours of the night, To inspire greatness within the confines of my writing, It is within that time that I will see you again. I hope that I have impressed you with the time you had here on earth, Enough to say that I am counted as your prodigy and as one of your favorite writers, Among my generation; so that when I become famous, You can sit back and say, "I knew Fredric Cilbrith III from when he was in his twenties and still do to this day. He and I have a great friendship. I'm very proud of the writer he's become and I wish him all the success in the world." I wish that I have done that for you Myron, I love you like my 'fourth grandfather' I always will, I miss you my dear friend and I can't wait until we meet again. May you Rest In Peace my friend. From my heart to yours, Beating eternal in the memories you left behind. Fredric H. Cilbrith III
