The God in this poem is in reference to Yahweh, that is, the brutal God of the Torah, the Old and New Testament as well as the Qu'ran. I am not athiest.

Ah but I'm partial of the God of the Old Testament. There's a certain amount of security in punishment...

Whatever floats your boat Marie, but if one's notion of security is security from abuse and punishme.. read moreWhatever floats your boat Marie, but if one's notion of security is security from abuse and punishment then I don't understand your statement. The creator of the universe who was allegedly channeled by the chaps who wrote the bible is not a nice entity to put it mildly: "Happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us. He who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks. (Psalms 137:8-9)" Now I know in my heart and soul (and so do you) that murdering innocent babies is evil and wrong. Only a pure psychopath could be "HAPPY" carrying out such a despicable act. Now when I come across 'evidence' like this quoted directly from the old testament, which there is no shortage of, I know, that the chap s who wrote the old testament were NOT in fact channeling the true creator of the universe who for me is a God of love and compassion. If on the unlikely event that they were channeling the creator of the universe, then such an entity is not worthy of my respect and devotion. I believe that those who are partial, as you put it, to this lunatic God of the old testament are suffering from cognitive dissonance, now I don't mean to cause you any offense by saying this Marie, I'm just telling you the truth. Take care and the very best of wishes

Oh, well I don't believe much of the New Testament either...
That's a great opening. this poem shows so much of the hypocrisy in religion and how it can be twisted to totally contradictory meanings.

True story: I was actually raised Catholic but never really believed. At age 16 I kinda snapped and got really aggressive towards the views of the religious, citing the same Old Testament atrocities. I'm past that not 'live and let live', so long as no one does horrible things with their faith (which isn't too much of a problem in the UK, usually). I say all this because I know how real the frustration in this poem is, and it's more important that poetry be real than wholesome. Good work.
