chapter 8

a new friend

After the whipping Jokai had to leave with his father whereas Yuki and Sora are at Higure place looking after her. A few days after the whipping Higure is back to doing her chores and Yuki has moved in with Higure.

“Hey Higure, the reapers are back under direct orders from the king.” Yuki says trying not to make Higure angry.

“Really, I’ll have to say thank- you to them for almost getting me killed,” Higure says, Yuki is scared half to death “don’t worry Yuki I’m not angry with the reapers, but I wouldn’t save one either.” She says laughing, Yuki walks up to her and says

“That’s not something you should be laughing about.” Higure looks at her and smiles

“I’m going for a walk can you stay here and look after the house” she says putting on a coat. Higure walks to the lake “I haven’t seen Jokai in a while wonder if his alright” Higure says to herself. Higure starts taking of her clothes as she enters the lake “A nice swim will help,” you can still see her scars from the whipping and one huge one looks like it won’t heal at all. Higure turn around to her something in the bush, “who’s there?” she yells but no one comes out. When Higure gets home Sora is there.    

“Hey Higure, did you hear about the reapers.” Sora asks looking at her wet

“How come you’re wet? Did you go skinning dipping again?” Yuki asks giving some tea to Sora.

“”So what if I did, you can’t do anything about it.” Higure says going into the kitchen, Sora can’t believe what they are talking about. “Let me just I have to make dinner again tonight?” Higure says getting out a frying pan.

“You know I can’t cook,” Yuki says as if she was lairing. Later that night Higure wakes up in the middle of the night and goes outside. Higure again hears something in the bushes, but ignores it and walks back inside.

The next day she hears it again, but more often she finally asks Yuki if she can hear it to

“Yes, but not as much when I go into the village. I think we might have a stalker, but let not tell Sora he might kill them.” Yuki says lighting the fireplace, then the hear a women screaming

“Could it be another witch?” Higure says looking out the window “I’m going to look for them” she says exiting out the door.

“No, don’t” Yuki says grabbing Higure’s arm

“Don’t worry I’ll be fine,” Higure says running out the door. Higure hears it again and runs into the forest, after 10 minutes of running she sees a small wolf and a witch fighting. Higure rushes in and attacks the wolf using her dark magic. The wolf dodges and tries to attack the witch again, but Higure puts up a shield. Then the witch grabs Higure and says

“Stay back or I’ll kill her,” the wolf looks at Higure and steps back. Higure then uses a spell to attack the witch “no, no” says the witch as Higure get freed, the wolf attacks the witch killing her. Higure sees the wolf is bleeding and rush over the wolf growls as he pass out. Higure rushes him home and patches him up, when she put him on her bed he turns into a human.
