Just a reminder to all the ladies out there; you may feel prettier with makeup on, but don't ever forget your true, beautiful identity.
She used to trace her eyes with a path of black I assumed it was to grab attention She would perfectly fill her acne scars’ gaps Maybe it was to be the best addition Barbie dolls, and Maybelline models would make her feel inferior but between the shadows, glosses and makeup bottles She’s forgotten her natural exterior The beauty flows, and young age glows No filter is needed Hashtag “woe” nobody knows but she feels less conceited Caked on lies attracted some guys and made her act a certain way she has those perfect laugh lines around her eyes that will make anybody’s day naturally okay perfect imperfections, aren’t meant to be hidden makeup’s deceptions, needs to be permanently forbidden She was born with a face that describes her Flawless, nothing can replace what is her
i remember the poem Barbie Doll...and how she tried to appease everyone who said she should look a certain way...she finally got there, but in the process, the person she was died.
i think make-up...a little of it might enhance if used correctly...but i really prefer the natural look...the person as she is...
this poem is amazing...especially how you brought in all that silly technology...the hashtag stuff...
we are so much facebook and face lifts these days.
imperfection, to me, is perfection!

I feel like Barbie Doll was more serious and eye opening, which was my goal. I did like that poem a lot. These days, without some modern integration of abbreviations not many people could understand what the point of the piece is. Thank you so much for your kind review! I agree, I wear eye makeup because I enjoy bringing out the shape a little. My hopes are that people won't believe their personality hides in the powder of their makeup.

Love it. No one should ever feel like she has to cover herself. Everyone is beautiful and should show it.

I couldn't agree more! :) I can confirm, most of the guys don't like girls with much makeup, natural beauty is real and nothing's better than that! Not very related but I just thought of the Herrick's Delight in Disorder from Hesperides, where he writes about the beauty of his 'messy Muse'! :)

I have been told numerous times how the guys do not like makeup, the truth is; some women put on that fake face to prove to themselves that they can be someone better, or different. I have done that in the past with the mentality that i would be a better person around the guy than being myself.
This poem is so deep, the thoughts expressed pull me into this moment you have written. How can we compete with the images we see in magazines or on tv, all showing us what beautiful is and it is not us. So we try to paint on a face that is not ours but closer to what they say we should look like. Great writing.

You're right, most women and men idolize the fake and villainize the real.
