Love's Regret

Love's Regret

A Poem by theunionisloud

You were here a short while back
when you held me and swore
You'd never let go, not if I extracted your fingers from my waist,
from your hand.

And then you were gone
On my feet, I stood
planted firmly in the departing earth
your absence always present.

Where do you hide?
Your invisible love still
Grounding me,
Grounding me,
Ground.

How I wish for that last midnight on the porch swing
                   your soft murmurs of allegiance
that I pried into your silent agenda
that I ran back into your refuge
to graze my lips against yours
and
with that last goodnight kiss, renewed your every promise.

As a fable about unrequited love this one is awesome...I like the fun rhythms, the innovative structure and the syntax as well...
