New Jersey HeroesA Poem by The Dark Passenger
Growing up hook and nail, off the record, setting sail they said you were gunna save us martyr yourself by writting bibles filled with slurs-
of wicked phrases, proses, poetry verses, born out of vallium and cheap whiskey, burning down the rabbit hole, spinning the truth till your soul got sold,
Well you can't save the world, can't catch your breath, till you sign away your life and make a w***e out of death
The kids that loved you will throw you out (who are you now, backstabber, who are you now?) building leagues of pretenders, and turning into everything you wish you wouldn't try to stop but you just couldn't (who are you now, backstabber, who are you now?)
from indie heroes to arena idols, false prophets, make believers, saints for grievers, making money out of words that lost all meaning, cashing cheques, getting rich deceiving.
The kids that loved you will throw you out (who are you now, Rockstar, who are you now?) building leagues of pretenders, and turning into everything you wish you wouldn't try to stop but you just couldn't (who are you now, Rockstar, who are you now?)
My favourite jersey heroes, beacons for a sound we've never heard and crucified on mainstream just suckers for the American Dream(c)
The kids that loved you will throw you out (who are you now, mother f****r, who are you now?) building leagues of pretenders, and turning into everything you wish you wouldn't try to stop but you just couldn't (who are you now, mother f****r, who are you now?)
