Flicker

Flicker

A Poem by The Dark Passenger

Flicker

Sam Hart had a son

He held him in his tired arms

Soft and small, so delicate,

But cold as the lights-

That flickered up ahead

Through and through

Down corridors

That squeaked with nurses shoes

A sigh, for want of breath,

Sam watched his wife awake.

He didn’t have to speak a word,

She knew the moment he looked up, at her,

Eyes filled with tears,

And shaking with grief

Sam Hart had a son

He held him in his tired arms

Soft and small, so delicate,

But born with worn-out lungs.

The Dark Passenger
intended it to be a little longer at first, but I thought keeping it short made more of an impact. let me know what you think :)

This is great. At first it reads as though it's this cute, happy moment, but then the reader becomes suspicious with every word further, and in the end sorrow clings to every line. Very nice.
