Shriek

Shriek

A Poem by Yes
"

My freshman English teacher claimed this to be a Sonnet, but she's kind of a nut, so I'm not exactly sure...

"

I lie in bed listening to the sound
Of chirruping frogs
When I hear the cry of a hound
The most disturbing sound, the shrieking of dogs

It shall never fail
To amaze me, The screams
Of a dog, the wail
Of man’s best friend. Never in my dreams

Had I heard such a cry,
Like trying to rob
A dog of his dignity, I can’t deny
The weight of the mournful sob.

I can’t blame the dogs, it’s not fair,
But sometimes I worry then their cries no longer fill the air.
